Expertise

Rebecca advises on financial and private children law matters arising on the breakdown of a relationship, including divorce, dissolution and the separation of unmarried parties. Rebecca has particular expertise in advising professionals (or their spouses) on these issues, and regularly works with members of the department’s Professional Practices Group. She also advises on non-contentious matters, with a growing practice advising on nuptial agreements.

Rebecca has significant experience advising separating parents on the care and living arrangements of their children. As part of her children practice, she also has experience in obtaining declarations of parentage.

Rebecca’s cases often have an international element involving foreign jurisdictions or clients based or looking to move overseas. She has a particular interest in intra-UK family law and having qualified in Scots law in 2023, is admitted to the roll of solicitors of the Law Society of Scotland as a non-practising member.

Experience

  • Acted for and achieved favourable outcome for the wife in complex financial remedy proceedings concerning the husband’s co-investment in private equity schemes against the backdrop of a relatively short marriage.
  • Acted for the husband in a financial matter where the majority of the family’s wealth related to his historic injury award, and achieved an outcome which safeguarded those funds for his future needs.
  • Acted for the successful applicant father in children proceedings which resulted in a shared care arrangement following a prolonged period of the mother having restricted the children’s time with the father.
  • Acted on behalf of the trustees of a significant family trust, providing advice on the impact of nuptial agreements on the trust interests of beneficiaries.

Recognition

Rebecca has been recognised in the Legal 500 as a key member in the team.

Legal 500: “…extraordinarily knowledgeable, responsive and – importantly – sympathetic, sensible and understanding…a pleasure to work with…would recommend to anybody”.
